ALPINE CHRISTMAS MARKETS, November 28-December 5, 2008 Even if you’re thrilled that the holidays are finally behind us, you won’t want to pass up the opportunity to join BCS Director, Sandi Tinyk, on this delightful, very reasonably priced winter 2008 tour with a festive, Christmas theme. Put the Thanksgiving leftovers in the freezer and join BCS to explore traditional European Christmas markets throughout the Alpine region, in Austria and southern Bavaria. And, we’ll have the advantage of a one-hotel, 6-night stay in Innsbruck. A local guide will lead a panoramic city tour, highlighting Maria Theresienstrasse, the Hofburg and the “Golden Roof,” all set against the lovely Austrian Alps, with ample time to visit Innsbruck’s beautiful Christmas Market. A tour of Munich, Germany, features the famous Glockenspiel, Marienplatz and the Olympic Park. A delightful day of sightseeing will feature the picturesque town of Oberammergau, which owes its fame to the internationally-known Passion Play. The village is also known as the home of a long tradition of woodcarving. The streets of central Oberammergau contain dozens of woodcarver shops, with pieces ranging from religious subjects, to toys, to humoristic portraits. En route, we’ll view the fairy tale castle of Neuschwanstein, visit Wies Church, proclaimed a World Heritage Site, and enjoy the breath-taking scenery. Visit the fabulous Christmas markets of Salzburg, Austria, on a full day in this lovely city, the birthplace of Mozart, site of wondrous architecture, and the setting of The Sound of Music. Our day in Salzburg concludes with a delightful dinner at the centuries-old St. Peter’s Restaurant in the historic center. One day in Innsbruck is free for you to explore museums, visit sites not included on the itinerary or return to the Christmas markets for some last-minute shopping.
